My goal is to break down language barriers and help you carry your message to a broader audience. Working closely with you, I translate your Italian or Spanish text into fluid, natural English appropriate for your intended reader. The art of translation goes far beyond a simple word-for-word substitution. Not only must the sense of the text be conveyed with due attention for any cultural differences, critical thinking is also involved at every step of the way. The result is a text that sounds as if it were originally written in English, with none of the awkward phrasing that usually belies translations.
While experienced with a wide range of texts — vital documents for individuals to marketing materials and technical specifications for private companies — I specialize in academic translations, scientific articles, research proposals, and books for university faculty. Aware that each field has its own specific terminology, I collaborate with you during the translation process, requesting feedback and offering comments to make sure your work conveys your message the way you want.

ABOUT ME
I produce translations from Italian and Spanish into my native language, English. Born and raised in the United States, I hold a B.A. in Physics, a Ph.D. Astrophysics, and a minor in Spanish. For several years I taught and did research at the university level, which has provided me with a unique perspective in the translating world: that of a scientist. I am familiar with the requirements of peer-reviewed journal articles and have keen attention for the precision of technical language.

I began working as a translator after moving to Italy in 2010. Combined with formal language studies, the time I have spent living in both Italy and Spain has provided me with current, in-depth knowledge about the respective languages. I have a strong, innate curiosity that drives me to learn the specifics of any topic I am handed, which means I always take the time to find just the right word.
